Open Access Participation

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Open Access Participation?

This category is open to participants of any age who have a special educational need or disability (SEND) that affects how they communicate or engage with recitation.  Open Access participation is available for Art, Hifdh and Open Recitation.

Please select the product Open Access, and choose your testing category.

Can I win a trophy if I participate in Open Access Participation?

Yes.

Open Access participation will not have ranking within it’s competition categories.  SEND individuals will be participating as individuals and will be judged according to critiera that is agreed with LFQC before the competition day.
To recognise participation and acheivement for SEND participants, the LFQC will provide trophies to all Open Access participants.

When will the awards be presented?

The awards ceremony for Open Access participation will be held on the same weekend.  Most likely on Sunday 4th October.  LFQC will provide a quiet space, away from crowds, where participants and their families can attend to receive their awards and trophies.

If you feel, as an Open Access participant you will be comfortable to receive your award as part of the LFQC Closing Ceremony that will take place in the main Transition Halls, please let us know during our intial conversation so this can be arranged.

How will Open Access participants be tested?

After registration, a member of the LFQC team will make contact with the registrants.  This conversation will provide the basis for the agreed testing for the participant for eg.  A participant would like to take part in Open Access Hifdh.  The participant will then provide the LFQC with the Surah/testing criteria that they will prepare (this could be for eg Surah Al-Feel, which is not a mainstream Hifdh surah).  The participant will then spend time preparing this Surah, and the judges on competition day will listen to the Surah, and provide feedback.  The judges will also be looking out for notable skills that they will be recognising with LFQC awards.

I am a person with SEN, can I participate in the mainstream categories?

Yes!

If you feel that you can participate in the mainstream categories, together with partipants of your age group, please use the mainstream categories for registration.  During checkout you will be asked to put your additional details in to a form, please do this giving as much information about your SEND needs.   We are able to make minor adjustments to marking / judging sessions to accommodate participation.  For example; if you have a stammer and would like to participate in Hifdh or Open Recitation, we can adjust the marking scheme so you are not penalised on hesitation. All other criteria would remain the same.
Or for example; if you have selective mutism yet are able to perform in a private judging session that is not public, we can arrange this. Or for example; you may have another need that necessitates dimmed lighting in your testing room, we can arrange this too.
